A Celebration of Unity: Naila and Jabir’s Wedding Feast

Naila and Jabir’s wedding feast, which also celebrated Haroon and Hamdalah’s union, was a grand event filled with love, joy, and unity. This memorable day highlighted the amalgamation of three families, marking the beginning of a new journey for the couples.

A Celebration of Unity: Naila and Jabir’s Wedding Feast

The Grand Event

Nights rolled into days, leading up to the day of Naila and Jabir’s wedding feast, which also doubled as Haroon and Hamdalah’s wedding day. All roads led to one of the biggest event centers adjoining Lagos State and Ogun State. The beautiful and spacious event center was chosen because it could accommodate the three families involved: the Adamson family, the Akinsola family, and Hamdalah’s family.

A Unified Celebration

The Adamson family was marrying out their only daughter while their fourth son was also getting a wife. They invited numerous guests. The Akinsola family also invited many people, ensuring the event was grand. Hamdalah’s family arrived in large numbers, contributing to the festive atmosphere.

A Touch of Elegance

Amazingly, a uniform aso-ebi was picked by the three families, creating a visually captivating event. The siblings of the four celebrants wore a different uniform attire, adding to the elegance. The parents of the celebrants were also garbed in uniform outfits, symbolizing love, understanding, and unity.

The Beautiful Venue

The event center sparkled with beautiful designs, both interior and exterior. The two brides and two grooms were getting ready in their respective dressing rooms. Families from the three sides started arriving early. Amirah, Jabir’s first wife, also graced the occasion, managing her emotions with the support of friends and family.

Grand Entrance

A bold backdrop with the inscription: “Naila weds Jabir and Haroon weds Hamdalah” adorned the front of the event center. The MC mounted the podium, and the event began. The grooms were called out first, with Haroon dazzling in his emerald green Babariga. He walked to the podium, all smiles, accompanied by his friends.

The Elegant Brides

Hamdalah followed, walking majestically to the podium in a lush emerald green jilbab. Her gold purse and shoes added to her radiant appearance. Haroon welcomed her warmly as she took her seat beside him. Jabir, the second groom, was called out next, looking elegant in his navy blue Babariga, surrounded by his friends.

Celebrating Naila

Naila, the celebrated bride of Jabir, emerged gallantly in a beautiful navy blue jilbab, adorned with a pink purse and shoes. Her smile was as bright as sunshine, reflecting her happiness and fulfillment as she joined her husband on the podium.

The Lectures

The program continued with lectures. The first lecturer spoke about marriage, quoting Quran 30 – Ar-Rum verse 21, emphasizing the importance of mutual goodness and fulfilling each other’s rights for a lasting marriage. The second lecturer addressed polygyny in Islam, quoting Quran 4 – An-Nisa verse 3.

Addressing Polygyny

The lecturer invited Amirah, Jabir’s first wife, to the podium, emphasizing the importance of justice and equity in polygynous marriages. He commended Amirah for her presence and urged Jabir to treat his wives with fairness and understanding. The audience cheered as Jabir embraced both his wives, symbolizing unity and harmony.

Insights on Polygyny

The lecturer continued, providing practical examples to illustrate his points. “For example, if wife A has three children and wife B has just one, you can’t provide the same amount of food for them. You have to make provision for them according to their population. But then, you must also be just. Don’t give one wife jollof rice and chicken and give the second wife garri and kulikuli except that’s what she wants,” he said, and the audience laughed.

Practical Advice

“Who will want garri and kulikuli?” a woman raised her voice from the audience. “Toor! Women are not predictable!” the lecturer shrugged. “Men are only advised to fear Allah in their dealings with them. Even when you’re treating your wives according to their wants and circumstances, make sure you’re doing it with absolute fear of Allah, lest you’ll be raised on the day of judgement with one of your sides leaning sideways. The Prophet PBUH says: ‘Whoever has two wives and leans towards (i.e. favours) one of them (over the other), will come on the Day of Resurrection with half of his body leaning. May this never be your end, Jabir, please tread softly.’”

Addressing the Wives

“Thank you, sir,” Jabir showed gratitude to the lecturer. “You’re welcome. Now to the honourable wives,” he began to address Amirah and Naila. “Much as you don’t desire polygyny, you should understand that it’s the injunction of Allah and you should try your utmost best to follow and accept it whenever the situation calls for it or the need arises or you find yourselves in it. Because we’re servants who hear and obey our Lord’s injunction. That’s where agreeing with what we don’t desire comes to play.”

Embracing Polygyny

“Because we’re servants who want the pleasure of Allah, that’s why accepting polygyny is what we sue for if it becomes our reality. Because we know waging war against polygyny is like waging war against the words of Allah. The resistance women have for polygyny is borne out of so many reasons which could be personal and societal. However, the fact that polygyny is allowed in our religion should subjugate any personal or societal resistance. Am I making sense?” he paused to hear from them. They both nodded their heads, and he continued.

Understanding Resistance

“Even though polygyny is not compulsory, it’s still part of our religion. It can’t be removed from our religion. And the fact still remains that the benefits outweigh the shortcomings. While polygyny will not be everyone’s fate, I think being open to it will evaporate any form of opposition whenever it becomes one’s reality. Polygyny is a hard reality for women. It’s a bitter pill to swallow and it’s a hard blow that hits badly. No woman desires it.”

Accepting Fate

“The women whose husbands have tow the path of polygyny only agreed with it because it’s the injunction of Allah. They accepted their fate because they know that their objection once it has happened can incur the wrath of Allah.

A Heartwarming Reunion

Two weeks later, the new couple returned to Hassan’s house in Lagos. Hakeemah came to pay them a visit a day after their arrival.

A Heartwarming Reunion

A Surprise Visit

“You never wanted to return? And on top of that, you made your destination a top secret,” she chided them. “So that you won’t disturb us,” Hassan replied.

The Marriage Glow

“Mtcheww! Olamide, how are you? I don’t even need to ask, I can see the marriage glow all over you.” Olamide didn’t respond. She continued to smile.

Feeling Like an Intruder

Hakeemah shrugged. “This one that you refused to talk but continued to smile is making me feel like an intruder. I think I’m interrupting you. Anyway, I didn’t plan to stay long. I just came to drop the remaining of your wedding gifts.” She said as she dropped the things she was carrying and was about to step out when Olamide called her back.

The Reason for the Smile

“Wait joor. Do you even know why I’m smiling?” She asked, smiling. “Why?” Hakeemah asked, staring at her without interest. “Come and see something,” she beckoned her to see something on her phone.

A Surprising Encounter

Hakeemah screamed afterwards. “Where did you see him?” She asked eagerly. “I saw him in Portharcourt,” Olamide replied with a twist of her body.

A Long-Awaited Meeting

“You’ve been in Portharcourt in the last two weeks?” She marvelled. “Yes. There’s this place I stumbled upon when I was serving in Portharcourt and it had been on my bucket list since then. And fortunately, my sweetheart granted my baby girl’s wish,” she said as she held her husband’s hand and stared lovingly at him. He winked at her and drew love on her palm with his finger.

The Raunchy Couple

Hakeemah shook her head. “The two of you should stop being raunchy in my presence, joor. Where did you see Adam?” She asked eagerly. “I told you I saw him in Portharcourt. In fact, immediately he saw me, he rushed to me like he wanted to hug me. My husband was even jealous before I told him to calm down that he was your die-hard wooer when we were in school but unfortunately, you played hard to get and drove him away.”

The Story Unfolds

“Story!” Hakeemah rolled her eyes at her friend. “Oya sorry. The way you screamed when you saw his picture on my phone shows you adore him. I think he still loves you too because he never stopped asking about you till we departed. In fact, he asked for your number but I said I could not give it to him without your permission. Your brother said he’s going to handle the rest because he collected his number.”

The Number Exchange

“Yes,” Hassan picked it up from where his wife stopped. “Let me know if I should give him your number.” “Give him my number, please,” she replied sharply. “See, Olamide, after that guy disappeared.”

The Disappearance

“He didn’t disappear, he graduated before us,” Olamide interrupted her friend who in return also interrupted her. “Anyhow, I didn’t get to see him again after he graduated so he disappeared in my opinion. After he disappeared, every other man looked like trash to me.”

The Spec

“Really? And you didn’t open up. You were just rejecting them like you’ve not seen your spec,” Olamide cut in. “Yes, I didn’t truly see my spec after he disappeared so please give him my number. Let’s see if we can work something out,” she replied and the couple burst into laughter.

The Request

“What’s funny? Please give him my number. I’ll be expecting his call. Let me leave you to continue your lovey-dovey,” she said and was walking away but paused and addressed the couple again. “Don’t forget to give him my number, please. It’s very important.” “We’ll not forget,” the couple chorused. “In fact, I’m sending it to him right away,” Hassan emphasised.

The Visit Request

Hakeemah thanked him and left. Hassan turned to Olamide. “Your mum called me earlier. She wants to visit,” Hassan informed her. “Not now, please!” She replied.

The Assurance

“Okay, let me know when you’re ready. Or.” “Don’t bring that question of if I’m still angry with them, please!” She cut him short. He shrugged and hugged her. “Don’t worry, darling. I’m here with you and for you. You’re not alone,” he assured her. She nodded her head and cuddled him tightly.

The Painful Past

It seemed being around her parents still hurt her and she didn’t allow them to visit her nor visit them either. But they spoke on the phone and that was it. Six months later, Hakeemah got married to Adam in a glamorous wedding.

The Labour Room

Four months after Hakeemah’s wedding, Olamide was in the labour room, about to give life to her first child with her loving husband, Hassan. Hassan was with her. She continued to shout. She wasn’t cooperating with the nurses. Hassan turned to one of the nurses.

The Caesarean Section

“I think I’ll go for a caesarean section. I can’t bear to see her in pain. She can’t bear the pain either,” he said to the nurse. “Relax, she’s a first-time mum. Her body is still alien to the pain of labour, that’s why she’s shouting. And besides, her contraction started just five hours ago,” the nurse was trying to explain to Hassan when Olamide snapped at her.

The Pain

“You call five hours, ‘just?’ Did you just call five hours, ‘just?’ Five hours is not ‘just.’ I’m in pain. I can’t bear this pain again,” she shouted amidst tears. “Nurse please do something, she can’t bear the pain again. Let’s go for a caesarean section. How many hours left before she delivers, if I may ask?” He asked the nurse.

The Waiting Game

“Like I said, she’s a first-time mum, it may take like 12 hours or less or higher.” Olamide screamed again. “You’re very mean, you this nurse! You mean I’ll still spend up to 12 hours in this pain? Hassan, please call my mum. Call my mum. Is this what she went through when she had me? Is this how she experienced a near-death when she had the three of us? Please call her to come. I want to tell her something. I want to tell her I’ve forgiven her wholeheartedly. Is this what mothers go through? Hassan please call my mum,” she shouted.

The Call

He quickly picked up his phone and called her mother who came running down to Lagos immediately. Before her mum arrived in the evening, she had already given birth to two beautiful princesses, both looking like their dad. The nurses teased her endlessly while she rolled her eyes at them.

The Joyful Moment

Her husband cuddled the three of them tenderly; Olamide and his baby girls. “Alhamdilillah Rabil’Alamin. Of all the things my hands have held, my girls are by far the most beautiful,” he said happily. “What did you just say?” Olamide challenged him. “Your hands have been holding me before the girls, so I’m not beautiful?”

The Tease

He laughed. Her mum also laughed. “Someone is jealous of her daughters!” He teased her. “Leave me, joor. With the near death that I had, you should still be all over me with ‘sorry my darling.’ Is it not too early to start doting over the girls while ignoring me?”

The Apology

“I’m sorry. Sorry my darling. You’re a fighter. You put up a good fight. Thanks for birthing my beautiful princesses,” he appreciated her with a kiss on her forehead. He turned to his mother-in-law. “I’ll be right back, ma’am. Let me discard the placenta,” he said and walked out of the ward.

The Hot Tea

Olamide’s mum made her a hot tea and fed her. “You should drink this tea to regain your strength.” “Thank you, mummy,” she hugged her mother affectionately.

The Labour Experience

“Labour is not a sweet experience, mummy. I wasn’t informed. I couldn’t help forgiving you when I experienced this near-death.” “Shhhh. Stop calling it a near-death. It’s a beautiful experience every woman prays to go through. And I beg Allah to grant beautiful children to every waiting parent. Now you have your babies in your arms and the pain is gone, has it not?”

The Joy of Motherhood

“It has. I’m so happy seeing my babies that I forgot the pain I went through immediately,” she grinned as she looked at the tiny creatures in her arms with so much love and appreciation. “That’s the spirit, my darling. Let me put the babies in their cot. I want to pray Maghrib,” the woman said as she brought out a Hijab from her bag and wore it.

The Surprise

Olamide was surprised. “Mummy, you now pray? Even with Hijab?” She marvelled. “Yes, my darling. I now pray my five daily prayers without fail. Even your daddy and Olamiposi. We all have embraced the prayer. Kolawole too is picking up little by little. He introduced his fiancée to us last week.”

A Journey of Emotions

Jabir took his time to bond sweetly with his new wife before leaving. He observed the Maghrib prayer in Naila’s house before he left.

A Journey of Emotions

Returning Home

Since he came in Habeeb’s car and Habeeb had returned home in the afternoon, he ordered a ride home. The adhan for the Ishai prayer was chanted the moment he got to his street.

Uncertainty

He alighted from the ride and went straight to the mosque. After the prayer, he headed home with a trembling heart because he didn’t know what trouble awaited him.

He was locked out in the morning, he wasn’t sure if he would be allowed in that evening. He walked home with uncertainty. He had his spare key but he wasn’t sure if the door would have been locked from inside.

A Warm Greeting

He decided to try his luck anyway and fortunately, the door wasn’t locked from inside. He walked in and saw Amirah sitting on the chair. “Asalam Alaykum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh,” he greeted her cheerfully.

“Walaykum Salam,” her response was dull. He glanced at her and realised that her eyes were swollen.

Comforting Words

He moved over to her and embraced her. “Please stop crying. I understand how you feel. I understand your worries and pain. I promise never to stop loving you. I love you ..”

“Ish!” She scoffed, pushing him away. “You must have also told Naila today that you love her so much, right?”

“Relax! The love I have for Naila cannot affect the love I have for you and vice versa,” he replied and she raised her nose unbelievably.

“You texted me that the solemnisation has been done today.”

“Yes,” he replied simply.

Doubts and Tension

“Okay. So why did you come home?”

“I’ve explained everything in my text. Her father isn’t releasing her until the wedding feast.”

“Lies! He isn’t releasing her until the wedding feast but he said you could have carnal knowledge of her that he doesn’t mind if that happens,” she said and Jabir was surprised.

“How did you know what happened at the event?”

“I told you, I have my eyes all around you.”

“Subhanallah! Are you snooping on me?”

“Do you expect me to answer that? Anyway, did you sleep with her today?”

“You shouldn’t ask me such a question.”

Protective Concerns

“Why shouldn’t I ask you? Don’t I have the right to know so as to protect myself from STD?”

“Who’s giving you STD?” He stared hard at her.

“Dumb question!” She hissed. He shook his head and headed to the bedroom. Amirah followed him.

A Confrontation

They both entered the bedroom at the same time.

“I want to talk to you,” she told him. “I’m all ears!” He replied as he undressed.

“Wait a minute! Where did you get the dress you’re wearing?” She asked, looking at him from head to toe.

“I got it somehow!”

“How?” She insisted on knowing.

“Why don’t you let us stop this back and forth.”

“Please answer my question. Where did you get the dress you’re wearing?”

“I’m not obliged to respond to you. If you hadn’t locked me out, I would have worn the dress you knew.”

Jealousy and Accusations

“Shior! Something tells me you’ve been cohabiting with Naila before today ..”

“Are you accusing me of Zina?” His countenance changed.

“Where did you get the dress you wore today? Is it not the dress you keep with Naila?”

“Keep tormenting your brain. You’ll finally get an answer to your question. Please I want to sleep,” he said and as he was about to lay down, she pulled him up.

“Amirah, please now. Your trouble is getting too much. Allow me to sleep.”

“Didn’t you hear when I said I wanted to talk to you? Why should you sleep when I haven’t even said anything?”

IVF Decision

“Okay, I’m all ears,” the frustration in his voice was deep.

“Listen to me very carefully. If you say I’m jealous with what I’m about to say then so be it. I don’t want Naila to get pregnant before me. So, I want to do IVF!” She said boldly.

“Fine. Go and do it!” He replied.

“What do you mean ‘fine, go and do it?’ Am I going to do it by myself? Your sperm together with my egg are needed,” she put it to him.

“I’ve heard you.”

“I didn’t say you did not hear me. I need you to take action. When are we going to the hospital?” She asked him.

“Let’s go after my wedding feast with Naila …”

“Why should I wait till that time? Why should your wedding feast with Naila put my own life on hold?”

Financial Constraints

“I’m sorry for not using the right words. I mean we should go after my wedding with Naila because IVF is not free. It’s not cheap either. I don’t have that money now. You know I just bought two buildings. And I’ve not even completed the payment of the second building which is your school. Please understand.”

“I cannot understand anything! I don’t want to understand anything. Did I ask you to marry another wife? After spending all your money on her, you’re now telling me you don’t have money. Don’t even try to emotionally blackmail me. That second building wasn’t bought for me. You bought it for Naila so be reminded that you incurred those expenses because of your second wife. If you hadn’t nursed the idea of a second wife, the money you used in purchasing that building would have been used for my IVF …”

“Why are you talking like this? That second building has eventually become your school so what manner of reverse psychology are you doing?”

“I don’t care if it’s now my school or not. I don’t care at all. Don’t try to play a pity card on me because I don’t pity you one bit. Listen, you have to provide money for my IVF and that’s the final. I’m going to have an IVF done before your wedding feast with Naila because I want to get pregnant before her. That’s what I want and that’s what you will do for me.”

Heated Arguments

“I promise you that we’ll do IVF. I will support you every step of the way. But then, I don’t have that money now …”

“Borrow it! If you don’t have money, please borrow it. See how he’s talking like Alaanu Samaria. Do you think I pity you? I do not pity you a bit because I didn’t send you to marry another wife. Follow me to the hospital tomorrow so that we can begin the IVF process ASAP!”

“Okay. Can you lend me the money? I promise to pay you back ..” he said and he didn’t land when Amirah burst into laughter.

“You’re funny! Why should I lend you money? If you were to impregnate me naturally, would you have asked me to borrow you sperm? Mr Man, it’s your responsibility to impregnate me and when that is not happening naturally, it’s your responsibility to provide money for the IVF.”

“Did I argue it? I didn’t argue with you. I said I’ll fully support you. But then, I don’t have money now. You suggested that I should borrow money and I asked you if you could lend me. If you don’t have any money to lend out to me then you have to wait till I can raise money for it.”

A Firm Stand

“Listen to me, I’ll not borrow money to please you, Amirah. And I’ll not steal to please you either. I did some freelance work and I’m expecting 10 million naira in three months’ time. I don’t mind giving you everything for the IVF.”

“Oh! That’s so sweet of you,” her countenance changed immediately after hearing 10 million naira. “You’re really a thoughtful person. I appreciate you. But then, since the money you’re expecting in three months is certain, we can borrow money then pay it back when you get the money.”

“No, I’m not borrowing money,” he was obstinate.

“Please! Three months is too far. Your marriage with Naila would have clocked two months by then. I don’t want Naila to get pregnant before me.”

“Your filthy reason is one of the reasons why I’ll never borrow money to please you. What type of reasoning is that? You don’t want Naila to get pregnant before you! Haha! You’re really something else, o, Amirah. Would you stop other people’s blessings because you don’t have that blessing yet? You need to really purify your heart because you’re battling diseases in your heart. Don’t allow jealousy and competition to push you to the extreme. I’ll support your decision to do IVF.”

“You’re not supporting me,” she cut in sharply. “You’re doing it for yourself because the child will bear your name and not mine. The proper thing for you to say is that we’ll both get the IVF done.”

“Okay. We’ll both get the IVF done when I get the money I’m expecting in three months’ time, in Shaa Allah, satisfied?”

“I’m not satisfied. I don’t want Naila to get pregnant before me,” she repeated.

“There you go again! Don’t underrate the work of Allah. You can even get pregnant naturally before my wedding feast with Naila.”

“Awwwwwww! That’s so sweet to hear,” she smiled.

“Are you indirectly telling me that you’ll not touch her until the wedding feast?” She smiled at him.

“You’re free to torment your heart with whatever you want. I think we’re done talking. Please I want to sleep,” he said and lay down to sleep.

A Serene Honeymoon Adventure

Hassan and his wife began their journey to the airport, hand in hand. They had told their family they were going on a honeymoon but kept their destination a secret.

A Serene Honeymoon Adventure

A Special Resort

While serving in Port Harcourt, Olamide discovered a lovely resort perfect for vacation. She shared this with Hassan, and he agreed to her wishes.

Journey to the Airport

Their journey to the airport was filled with chit-chat. Their bond was seamless and effortless. Before their marriage, they had created a strong connection and friendship.

Playful Moments

The driver of Hassan’s dad took them to the airport. During their journey, they couldn’t stop talking. They both sat in the back seat while the driver focused on driving.

A Public Display

Hassan tried to kiss her, but she moved away swiftly. “There’s an external person here,” she said, pointing at the driver. “Who cares!” Hassan replied, trying to draw her nearer, but she remained stiff.

Driver’s Interjection

The driver smiled before interjecting. “Madam, don’t worry, I’m not paying attention,” he said, and Hassan grinned. “Can you hear that?” he told his new wife.

Arrival at the Airport

When they got to the airport, the driver dropped them off and returned home. The new couple boarded their flight, and their time in the air was another sweet adventure.

Discovering a Scar

During the flight, Hassan’s foot felt itchy, so he removed his socks. Olamide’s eyes caught a gunshot scar on his leg. She almost screamed.

Concern and Comfort

“What’s this?” Her eyes were filled with concern as she held his leg. He tried to calm her. “It’s nothing,” he replied casually. “Don’t tell me it’s nothing. What’s this big scar?”

Emotional Conversation

“You’ve been through so much because of me,” she cried. “How could my dad do this to you? I can imagine the pain you must have gone through.” He drew her closely and hugged her.

Reassurance

“No, babe, why should you feel guilty? Stop crying, please. This is a sweet moment we should savor. My darling, I love you so much. We’ve surmounted the hurdles, and now we’re together. Always remember that I love you.”

Expressing Love

She nodded her head. “I love you, too. Thanks for not giving up on me. You’re a rare gem. You’ll forever hold a special place in my heart.”

Sweet Adventure

After disembarking from the plane, they hired a taxi to the beautiful resort. The resort was a 20-minute drive from the airport. They arrived a few minutes before Maghrib.

Settling In

They lodged in and settled down. They both sat beside each other on the bed, with Olamide’s head on Hassan’s shoulder. The bond was therapeutic and soothing.

Joining in Prayer

They performed ablution and joined Maghrib and Ishai prayers together. After the prayer, they sat on the bed, staring at each other with passion.

Consummation of Marriage

Their marriage was consummated so passionately and wholesomely. After their sweet adventure, they lay on the bed, facing and smiling at each other.

Love Tripled

“My love for you has now tripled!” he said sweetly, and she shyly covered her face. “Now you’re shy, hun!” he teased, trying to remove her hand from her face.

Sharing Feelings

“Please feel free to tell me anything,” he assured her. “I never knew sex could be pleasurable. The past was brutal,” she began. He kissed her to stop her from continuing.

New Beginnings

“You don’t have to talk about it,” he said while kissing her. “But you said it’s okay to tell you anything,” she replied. “I didn’t know you wanted to share your past experience. Please, it’s us now, and I promise to treat you like the queen you are.”

Trust and Gratitude

“I trust you. I promise to be a good wife. Thanks for being in my life,” she said emotionally. “You’re my dream come true.”

Embracing Love

“I should be the one saying that, Olamide. You’re my dream come true,” he replied, holding her closer.

Sharing Past Mistakes

“I told you not to share your past but then I’m really tempted to share my past with you. Did you know that while I was married to my ex-wife, for the first few weeks of our marriage, I couldn’t help moaning your name while making out with her?”

“Subhanallah!” Olamide was shocked. “How were you so careless?” She slapped his shoulder lightly.

“It was really an unconscious mistake. Your thoughts had taken over my head and heart so much that I wasn’t thinking straight.”

“Subhanallah! That was really wrong of you!” Olamide scolded him.

“I know. Like I said, it was an unconscious mistake.”

“Poor woman! How were you able to curb yourself?”

“It was really messy and embarrassing. She reported me to my family, in a family meeting. She practically called a family meeting on my head.” He laughed.

“It’s not funny, my sweetheart,” Olamide hit him gently.

“I know. It wasn’t funny at the time but it’s funny now.”

“I’m cringing. I could imagine how hurt she must have felt. So what did your family say?”

“They told us to sort it out between ourselves. I couldn’t even own up. I denied it.”

“You denied it?!” Olamide was amazed.

“I couldn’t own up, my darling. To save my face, I had to deny it. Then I made a conscious effort not to repeat the same mistake. Wait a minute, are you really blaming me for moaning your name? Aren’t you the one that charmed me?” He laughed.

“My friend, come off it! Who charmed you? Why should you be with a woman and moan another woman’s name? Even me, I can’t accept it as a woman.”

“It wasn’t my fault, Ola. You were the one that charmed me.”

“You’re not serious,” she laughed. “Why are you repeating that I charmed you? I didn’t charm you. I just afflicted you with love.” She laughed.

He also laughed. “It’s good that you finally accepted that you charmed me,” he said and kissed her lovingly.

Moving Forward

“But on a serious note, sweetheart, you were wrong. Just imagine me moaning your name while with the man I was forced to marry. He would have killed me completely and buried me in a bottomless grave.”

“Shiiiiii!” He covered her lips with his finger. “Please don’t say anything about death. Nothing like that happened and I’m glad I can finally hold you in my arms. After this night, let’s both stop discussing our unpalatable pasts. Let’s dig a hole and bury them so that they’ll never resurface again.”

“Yes, my love! Let’s do that. I want to enjoy life with you to the fullest without thinking about my past.”

“Me too,” he said and kissed her again.

Magical Memories

They enjoyed the most beautiful night together. Their honeymoon continued with lots of amazing and magical memories. They dwelled in each other’s company, morning, afternoon, and night. They ate together while feeding each other. They played sweet games together. They enjoyed the beautiful scenery of the resort center. They had a swell time full of fond gratification.

Unexpected Encounter

A week into their lover’s timeout, they went out of the resort to get something at a nearby mall. As they walked through the aisle, a man approached Olamide swiftly like he wanted to hug her but Hassan quickly blocked him from accessing his wife.

Recognizing an Old Friend

Giving the man a closer look, Olamide exclaimed his name happily. “Adam, is this you!” There was joy in her voice as she looked stunned. “Yes, it’s me,” Adam replied. “I recognized you immediately I sighted you. That’s why I approached you.”

“Who’s he?” Hassan’s voice interrupted the man, sounding a little jealous. “Oh my darling, forgive my manners,” Olamide apologized to her husband sweetly. “His name is Adam. He was Hakeemah’s die-hard wooer when we were in school.”

“My sister?” Hassan was surprised. “Yes, your sister,” Olamide replied.

“Is this Hakeemah’s brother?” Adam asked Olamide. “Yes, he’s Hakeemah’s brother. And my husband,” she said the last sentence proudly with a grin.

“That’s wonderful!” Adam remarked with a smile. “It’s amazing to know that you and Hakeemah have finally become a family. How is Hakeemah doing?”

“She’s fine,” Olamide replied. “That’s good to know. Are you sure she’s fine?” Adam asked, trying to hint at something. “Yes, she’s very fine,” Olamide replied.

“Thank God. Ermmmm .. Can I have her number?” He requested. “I would have to ask for her permission first,” Olamide was responding when Hassan interjected interestedly. “Let me have your number instead,” he said and then pulled Adam aside gently.

A Brief Discussion

The two men discussed briefly. While they were talking, Olamide quickly took a picture of Adam. She intended to show it to Hakeemah to see if she would be interested in Adam.

Collecting Contact Information

After their cursory chatting, Adam walked to the cashier point while Hassan returned to where his wife was standing. “Have you collected his number?” Olamide was curious. “Yes, I have,” he replied with a grin.

“I can see how happy you are. It seems you like him,” Olamide nudged him. “What do you mean by saying I like him? Why should I like a man who nearly jumped on my wife?” “Are you jealous?” “No, I’m jealous,” his response was sarcastic after which he walked briskly away and Olamide hastened up to him.

Protective Jealousy

“Don’t be a petty and jealous lover, my sugar. I’m yours, forever and ever. Besides, the man that just left was your sister’s prospective, why are you now acting up? Shouldn’t you be thinking of how to make it work between him and your sister?” She pouted. “Actually, I think I like him. And I’d like to facilitate his chances with Hakeemah if she found him worthy.”

“Awwwwwww! You’re so sweet and thoughtful.” “But I didn’t like how he wanted to jump on you.” “There you go again! Don’t be too petty, my love. He was only happy to see me and that’s probably because he knew he would get to find out about Hakeemah from me.”

“I understand, my darling. I can’t just help the jealousy. It’s protective jealousy, anyway. I have to keep men off my wife.” “Awwwwwww! Am I not lucky to have a very protective husband?” “Of course you are,” he replied with a grin. “My heart is leaping for indescribable joy!” She grinned from ear to ear.

Enfolded in Love

He held her hand. “Come, let’s go and make payment,” he said as he enfolded her hand in his as they walked to the cashier point. They got to the cashier point and were surprised to see Adam, probably waiting for them.

A Generous Offer

“Your bill is on me,” Adam told them with a smile. “Oh, never mind!” Hassan declined. “I insist,” Adam was adamant. “No, not at all,” Hassan shook his head. “You can’t foot my bill unless you want me to think you’re bribing my acceptance of you.” Hassan teased him with a smile. “No, no, no. It’s not a bribe at all,” Adam shook his head.

A Polite Decline

“If it’s not, then allow me to pay for my own expenses,” Hassan declined jokingly and playfully. “Okay,” Adam shrugged. “Thank you,” Hassan replied and went ahead to make payment.

Meaningful Interaction

Adam still waited for them till they were done. Olamide smiled as she thought that he really meant business. The three of them left the mall together. They departed at the parking lot. Adam also came with an Uber. He hopped in while the couple also entered the Uber that was waiting for them.

Reflecting on the Encounter

“That man is really serious with his mission of hooking my sister. Can you imagine him wanting to pay my bills? Is that not desperation?” Hassan asked his wife. “Coming from a man who took a bullet because of a woman,” Olamide teased him.

Reaffirming Love

“Wow! This one enters. Are you now mocking me?” He rolled his eyes at her. “No, darling. I’m not mocking you. I’m just letting you know how brave you are. Only brave men take bullets for a woman they love. It’s a sign of their strength and not a weakness at all. Your bravery should be studied, my love!” “Awwwwwww! My head is swelling like garri-ijebu,” he was dramatically emotional as he wiped his imaginary tears.

Playful Banter

Olamide nudged him. “Won’t you thank me for praising you?” She pouted. “I thought I deserved the praises. Why should I thank you?” “You’re such a petty man!” She rolled her eyes at him playfully.

“Oya thank you for the praises,” he said, leaping over to kiss her. She pushed him away gently. “We’re in a public vehicle.” “And so what?” He frowned. “Hassan, please go away!” “You mean I should get out of the car?” He asked playfully. “What will I do with you? You’re just a clown.” “Yes, the clown you fell in love with.” “Yes, I can’t even deny it. I fell head over heels in love with you.”

“Awwwwwww! You fell head over heels but I was charmed. I was captivated. I was enamoured. I was enchanted. I was enraptured. I was ensorcelled. I was entranced. I was fascinated. In fact, I am gaga about you.”

Driver’s Interjection

“Ori mi n wu o,” the Uber driver cut in and burst into laughter. “Can you see what you’ve caused?” Olamide nudged her husband. “I didn’t cause anything. I just helped the driver with sweet words to tantalize his wife this evening. Am I wrong, oga driver?” Hassan asked him. “You’re not wrong, Oga. In fact, you’re very right. Iya Bola will collect this evening. I’ll tell her she’s ashanty and erupta.”

Shared Laughter

The driver said and the couple burst into laughter. Hassan spoke amidst laughter. “Oga driver, don’t bust my belle, abeg. It’s not ashanty but enchanted. And it’s not erupta but enraptured,” Hassan corrected him amidst laughter. “Oga, ewo, English is not for everybody. Let me continue to tantalize her with orekelewa, ayomi, idunnu mi,” the driver said, giving up on English.

Romantic Blessings

Hassan and his wife laughed out loud before the former spoke. “That one too is fine. The language of communication doesn’t matter. The most important thing is to keep the fire of love burning,” Hassan replied. “Thank you, Oga,” the driver smiled. “I love your relationship with your wife. Please keep being a romantic husband. May God bless your union.” “Aamin,” the couple replied resoundingly.

A Joyous Wedding Celebration

After the solemnization, the elders were urged to advise the new couple and pray for them. This was done simultaneously with serving. The guests were served their choices from the menu, with assorted drinks accompanying the food.

A Joyous Wedding Celebration

Abundance of Food and Drinks

Food and drinks were in abundance. Indeed, the Adamson family was big on celebrations, and Naila’s wedding was a testimony to that. The wedding feast was slated for a month, to be held together with Haroon and Hamdalah’s wedding.

Gift Exchange

The merriment continued after the food. The groom’s family presented the bride’s family with gifts, which were well received and appreciated. Their thoughtfulness amazed Naila’s parents, and Otunba joked about a long list of requests awaiting them. They laughed and replied that they were ready.

Prayers and Departure

The short programme ended before the Zhur prayer, and everyone went to the mosque to pray. Otunba had built a big mosque in his mini estate. After prayers, the groom’s family announced their intentions to leave. They thanked Naila’s family for their warm hospitality, and Naila’s family bid them goodbye.

A Private Conversation

Jabir told Habeeb to go home and that he would leave later because he wanted to talk to his bride. Hamzah and Jabir went to Hamzah’s apartment after the latter’s family had left. “Congratulations, man!” Hamzah extended his hand to Jabir for a warm handshake. “Thank you!” Jabir grinned.

Joyful Recollections

“Look at the way you’re grinning! Finally, you married my sister!” “Yes, finally! Alhamdulilah RabilAalamin. I’m the happiest man on earth right now,” Jabir couldn’t stop grinning. “Yes, you are. You have your long-time desires fulfilled. Why shouldn’t you be happy?” Hamzah smiled at him.

Heartfelt Conversations

“Exactly! I have my long-time desires fulfilled, and I’m so over the moon.” “Congratulations once again, bro! You’re a goal-getter!” “Thank you!” “I’m happy for you,” Hamzah also grinned.

Memories of the Past

“If my memory serves me right, eight years ago, you were sitting at that same spot you’re sitting now, and I was sitting at this same place that I’m sitting now when you told me: ‘I think I’ve found my future wife,’” Hamzah recalled, and they both laughed.

A Loving Reflection

“Your memory is really intact!” Jabir praised him. “Yes, that was exactly what I said. I said I’ve found my future wife. And Alhamdulillah RabilAalamin. The future is now, and I’ve finally hooked that beautiful woman.”

Brotherly Concern

“Yes, you have! Your love story inspires me so much. You’re really a hard lover. Congratulations! Please treat my sister well. If you mess with my sister, then I’ll mess with you,” Hamzah joked. “I dare not mess with your sister. She’s everything I need in a woman and more. You really don’t understand the depth of my love for her, do you?”

Excitement and Anticipation

“I don’t, because I’m not you,” Hamzah rolled his eyes playfully. “Hypocrite!” Jabir shrugged, and they both laughed. “I want to talk to Naila before I leave!” “You can go to her room and talk to her,” Hamzah replied. “No, I don’t want to do that!” Jabir shook his head. “She’s now your wife, bro!” Hamzah countered his hesitation.

Pinching Reality

“I know. But everything still seems like a beautiful dream to me. Please come and pinch me!” He told his friend, who moved over to him and pinched him hard. “Ouch! That was too much!” He winced.

Realizing the Dream

“Didn’t you ask me to pinch you? Have you now woken up from your slumber?” Hamzah teased him. “Yes, I have. It’s not a dream. It’s reality. Naila is now mine. Yeyyyyyyy!” He got up and threw a fist in the air.

Lover’s Joy

Hamzah watched him with great admiration. “You’re such a lover boy!” “Yes, I am,” Jabir smiled radiantly. “I really want to talk to my wife before I leave.” “Awwwwwww! I love the way that sounds! ‘My wife,’” Hamzah winked at him. “Yes, she’s now my WIFE!” He stressed. “It feels so surreal. I wished I could go to her room to talk to her, but I don’t even know her room.”

Becoming Family

“How is that a problem? I can take you to her room if you want me to. See, you’re now a member of this family, and you’re free to walk around this house like a family.” “Thank you. Let me call her on the phone first!” Jabir said and put a call across to Naila.

Attempting to Connect

The latter didn’t pick up. He called once again, but there was no response. “Let me take you to her room. She might be feeling too shy to answer your call,” Hamzah told him. “Okay. Let’s go, please!” He gave in, and both men went to Otunba’s apartment where Naila’s room was situated.

Knocking on the Door

Some guests were still in the living room. They greeted them and walked past. They approached Naila’s room, and Hamzah stepped forward and knocked on the door, but there was no response. The door was knocked several times, but there was still no response.

Entering the Room

“I don’t think she’s in,” Hamzah said as he pulled the door and peeped in. He didn’t see anyone, so he walked in and also invited Jabir in. He went to knock on the bathroom door to check if she was there, but there was no response. He also opened the bathroom gently but saw no one.

Waiting for Her Return

“I think she stepped out!” Hamzah told his friend. “Oh! Really?” Jabir nodded his head. “You can wait for her in the room.” “Can I?” He asked. “You still think she’s a stranger to you, right? Or you still think you’re a stranger in this house, right? My friend, sit down and wait for your wife,” Hamzah said, hurried out, and shut the door.

Admiring the Room

Jabir smiled and sat down on the bed. He looked around the large room and nodded his head at the alluring aesthetic. The room was neat and smelled so nice. The wall was painted pink. The bed frame was pink. The curtain was pink. The wardrobe was pink. The dressing mirror was pink. The shoe rack was pink. The bedspread on the bed was pink. In fact, everything in the room was oozing pink.

Making a Decision

Jabir smiled as a thought suddenly crossed his mind. He picked up his phone and made a call. “Hello painter, I hope you have not bought any paint!” “No, I haven’t. Today is Sunday. I’ll go and buy the paints tomorrow.” “Good! Please, I want the master’s bedroom to be painted pink. Also, paint all the furniture in the master’s bedroom pink, okay!”

Implementing Changes

“Okay. But what about others?” “You can go ahead with the initially planned paint colours for other areas, but the master’s bedroom should be painted pink,” he instructed passionately. “All right, sir. I’ll do as instructed.” “Good. Bye,” Jabir said, and the call ended.

Reflecting on Choices

“Why didn’t I ask for her colour of choice or favourite colour? If her room symbolizes pink, then her best colour must be pink. I got that!” He smiled. “Where could she have gone? Let me call her on the phone again!” He said and put a call across to Naila, but right there in her room, her phone rang.

Discovering Her Diary

“Oh, she didn’t even take her phone along with her,” he mumbled as he tried to check where the phone was ringing. He saw it under the pillow and pulled it out. As he pulled out the phone, a hardcover book also emerged from under the pillow. He picked both the phone and the book and alas, the book was Naila’s diary. “She keeps a diary?!” He was amazed. “Girls who keep a diary are known to be meticulous and secretive. Let’s see what she’s hiding in the diary.

A Heartfelt Reunion and Wedding Celebration

Hassan was quiet, trying to find a way to persuade her to reason with him.

A Heartfelt Reunion and Wedding Celebration

The Call

“Ola,” he called out softly. “You can’t stay away from your parents. Please go home. Your parents miss you. Don’t discard them, please! I understand you perfectly. I know it might not be comfortable being around them but you just have to endure for the little time remaining.”

“Ohhhh Hassan. Why are you doing this to me?”

“Please my love,” he persuaded her.

“No, I am not going home. Stop begging me. It’s not easy for me to be around them.”

“I understand. But you’ve not really tried to be around them. Maybe if you try, it will be easier to overcome the feeling of restlessness.”

“Hassan! I’m ending this call!” She snapped and ended the call.

Compiling Guidance

He heaved a deep breath, unsure of what to do next when an idea crossed his mind. He would persuade her with the words of Allah and His Prophet. He brought out his Qur’an and book of Hadith and started compiling verses and Hadith on goodness and kindness to parents and kin.

Sending a Message

He sent her a message on WhatsApp with a preceding text: “My love, please ponder over these texts. May Allah brighten your face as you do.”

“And We have enjoined upon man, to his parents, good treatment. His mother carried him with hardship and gave birth to him with hardship, and his gestation and weaning (period) is thirty months. (He grows) until, when he reaches maturity and reaches (the age of) forty years, he says, “My Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your favour which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents and to work righteousness of which You will approve and make righteous for me my offspring. Indeed, I have repented to You, and indeed, I am of those who submit.” Al-Ahqaf Quran 46: verse 15.

“Anas reported the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) as saying: “Anyone who is pleased that his sustenance is expanded and his age extended should do kindness to his near relatives.”

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “He who believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him maintain good relations with kin.” [Al Bukhari and Muslim]

Encouraging Words

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The one who severs the ties of kinship will not enter Paradise.” [Agreed upon].

It was reported by Aisha that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) said: “The bond of relationship is suspending from the Throne, and says: ‘He who keeps good relations with me, Allah will keep connection with him, but whosoever severs relations with me, Allah will sever connection with him.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

“And We have enjoined upon man goodness to parents. But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them. To Me is your return, and I will inform you about what you used to do.” Al-‘Ankabut : Quran 29 verse 8.

“And We have enjoined upon man (care) for his parents. His mother carried him in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Be grateful to Me and to your parents, to Me is the (final) destination.” Luqman: Quran 31 verse 14.

“Worship Allah and associate nothing with Him, and be good to your parents, and to relatives, orphans, the needy, the near neighbor, the neighbor farther away, the companion at your side, the traveler, and those whom your right hands possess. Indeed, Allah does not like those who are self-deluding and boastful.” An-Nisa : Quran 4 : 36.

“And your Lord has decreed that you not worship any except Him, and to parents, good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age (while) with you, say not to them (so much as), “uff”, and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word.” Al-Isra : Quran 17 verse 23.

“And lower to them the wing of humility out of mercy and say, “My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up (when I was) small.” Al-Isra : Quran 17 verse 24.

Tears and Reflection

Olamide read Hassan’s message with tears streaming down her face. She quickly put a call across to him.

“Are you saying that I’m a bad child?” She asked in tears.

“No, you’re not. You’re not a bad child, not in the least. I just want you to ponder over the words of Allah and His Prophet and open your heart towards your parents.”

“Do you think I shut my heart willingly?” She cried out.

“I know you didn’t shut it at will. I’m only encouraging you to give warming up to them a harder try. I know it’s not easy. But you just have to allow them to make it up to you. That’s the only way your heart can become softened towards them.”

“Okay. I’ll go. But I’ll go just two days before the family introduction,” she accepted at last.

“That’s fine. Thank you so much. May Allah reward you with goodness. He has vindicated you already. Don’t you think so?”

“Hmmmmmmm!!!” She could only hum.

They talked more before the call ended.

Preparing for the Family Introduction

Night rolled into days, and it was the day of the family introduction already. Olamide listened to Hassan’s admonition and traveled to Abuja two days before the meeting. She caught her family unaware, and the scream they gave when they saw her was deafening.

Warm Welcome

Her mother ran to embrace her happily. Her father doted on her like a baby. She told them she needed to rest and never went downstairs until the day of the introduction. Stepping into the house after several months brought back the unpleasant memories she’d been avoiding.

Reconnecting with Family

Her two brothers weren’t home. Kolawole had long returned to the US while Olamiposi had also gained admission into a university in England. Their dad probably gave up on imposing his choice on his children. Olamide couldn’t help being cold. She couldn’t even meet her parents’ eyes. But they didn’t pester her. They understood.

A Mother’s Love

They got food across to her through the maid. Once in a while, her mother would knock on her door to ask if she was fine or if she needed anything. She would ask if she could come in, but Olamide would say no. On the morning of the introduction, her mother begged her to allow her in, which she obliged.

A Heartfelt Gift

The woman hugged her tightly and presented her with many gifts, including expensive clothes, gold jewelry, under-wears, shoes, beauty products, and more. She also prayed heartily for her. Olamide smiled and thanked her, and that was it. She never gave a chance for any conversation.

Gratitude

Her mum smiled and left the room. At least she smiled and expressed gratitude. That alone soothed her heart, and it was enough for her.

Arrival of Hassan’s Family

Hassan’s family boarded the 8 a.m. flight from Lagos and got to Abuja some minutes before 9 a.m. Engineer Okanlawon’s driver was already waiting to pick them up. They thanked him and hopped into the car.

Warm Reception

They completed their journey before 10 a.m., and the Okanlawons welcomed them with open arms. A sumptuous breakfast was already prepared for them, and they were served without wasting time. Before the food, Hakeemah and Anat went upstairs to see Olamide.

Reuniting with Friends

Two of her female cousins were already with her. She jumped up happily when she saw Hakeemah and Anat and ran to embrace them with a greeting of peace. The trio cuddled for a few minutes before leaving one another.

Introduction

“You’re most welcome. I’m so happy to see you!” She grinned.

“We’re so elated to see you too,” they chorused and hugged her again.

She pointed at her cousins. “Those are my cousins, Nike and Adeeza. Nike, Adeeza, meet my would-be sisters-in-law.”

“Awwwwwww,” Hakeemah blushed. “I love the sound of that. ‘My would-be sisters-in-law.’ Nice to meet you, Nike and Adeeza. I am Hakeemah, and this is my older sister, Anat,” Hakeemah completed the introduction.

Warm Embrace

The four ladies had a warm embrace. “Olamide, you’re looking so sweet,” Anat complimented her with a smile. “Thank you,” she replied with a twist of her body.

“How was your journey?” She asked them.

“It was fine, Alhamdulillah Rabil’Alamin.”

“I’m glad to hear that. Have you eaten?” She asked them.

“No, we came upstairs to see you first,” Hakeemah replied.

“Now you’ve seen me. You should go and eat,” she urged them with smiles.

Family Discussion

They nodded their heads and went downstairs to eat. After the meal, the family sat and discussed the reason for the meeting. Hassan’s family came bearing gifts. There were also three sets of boxes in the gifts.

Gratitude and Curiosity

Engineer thanked them for the gifts. “You shouldn’t have bothered bringing gifts. Thank you so much,” he was grateful. “It’s our pleasure,” they replied.

A Grand Introduction and Wedding Plan

At exactly 10:40 in the morning, Jabir and his family arrived. They were surprised to see two big canopies erected in Otunba’s house. In fact, they were more surprised by the number of people already seated under the canopies.

A Grand Introduction and Wedding Plan

The Arrival

Mama Akinsola turned to her son. “Jabir, what’s going on? Isn’t this just an introduction?” “Yes, it is,” he replied.

“Then why are canopies erected? Why are there so many people in attendance?” The woman was amazed. “Well, Hamzah said his father is big on celebrations. That may be the reason,” Jabir replied.

A Lavish Affair

“Toor!” Mama Akinsola shrugged. “Thank God I’m wearing something nice. This family is really big on celebration, indeed. And thank God we didn’t come empty-handed,” she couldn’t stop feeling relieved.

Preparing for the Event

Hamdalah peeped through the window when they heard noises of greetings and pleasantries outside. “Naila, your husband and his people are here,” she informed her friend excitedly. “He’s not yet my husband,” Naila shook her head. “Today is the D-day!” Hamdalah winked at her.

Getting Ready

“You’re jumping!” Naila shook her head. “Yes, because I’m a jumper,” Hamdalah agreed with a smile. “Let’s get you dressed, jare. You’ll be called out any moment from now!” Together with Khadijah and Nasirat, they got Naila dressed, and she was looking beautiful and radiant.

Holding Onto Memories

While getting dressed, Naila held her diary firmly. Hamdalah couldn’t stop teasing her. They remained in the room and waited until Naila was summoned. When no one was looking, Naila quickly hid her diary under her pillow. She would return it to her wardrobe later when no one was around.

Warm Welcome

The Adamson family welcomed the Akinsola family with open arms. They invited them to their large living room and asked them to feel at home. In a jiffy, they served them pounded yam with efo riro to their surprise, accompanied by different assorted drinks.

Sensing Hospitality

Reading their countenances, Mrs Adamson told them they wanted them to eat before the event commenced. They nodded and thanked her for the food. “They’re really nice people!” Mazeedah, Jabir’s younger sister remarked. “You can say that again!” Awwal, his younger brother agreed. “Let’s eat,” Mama Akinsola told her family.

Dining and Conversations

“They really have a big and beautiful house here!” Mazeedah observed, and her mother gave her a stern look. “Eat and stop talking,” the woman said. “I’m eating,” she replied, and not up to 60 seconds later, she spoke again. “Bro Jabir, what are you feeling like today?” she asked her brother. “I’m feeling very happy!” he replied.

Maintaining Privacy

“You should feel happy, indeed,” Mazeedah told him. “You’re finally getting the peace of mind that you deserve…” “You better keep quiet!” Jabir shut her down calmly. “Who told you I don’t have peace of mind before?”

“It really shows. The scar on your forehead is a testimony of your peace of mind!” Mazeedah was sarcastic, and Jabir glanced at his mother. “Did you tell her anything?” he asked. “Do you have amnesia?” his mother asked. “Was Mazeedah not the one Anat called? Have you forgotten Mazeedah was the one that informed me before I ran to the hospital?”

Ensuring Discretion

“This is not something to discuss here!” Jabir’s elder brother, Sadiq, weighed in. “That’s true,” Alhaji Waliyu Akinsola, their father’s brother, agreed. “We don’t know who’s listening to our conversation. We’re here to take a wife. Her family shouldn’t know that the first wife is like that!” “You’re right, sir,” Mama Akinsola nodded.

Silent Meals

They all kept quiet and finished their food in silence. Thankfully, nobody heard them because no one was around. After their food, they were invited to the canopy to get the event started.

A Formal Introduction

When they got out, the people under the canopy were more than before, further amazing them. Naila’s parents were exquisitely dressed in uniform. They looked like a king and a queen in their aso-oke outfits. Her father held a staff with a black shade on his face, and her mother’s gele almost reached the top of the canopy.

Amazement

Jabir’s mother couldn’t stop being amazed. She looked at her family and heaved a deep sigh. ‘We all dress elegantly and richly too,’ she was satisfied. The front row of the second canopy was preserved for them. They sat down, and the MC addressed them.

Welcoming the Guests

“We welcome the Akinsola family to our family. We’re the Adamson family from Ogun State. You’re highly welcome,” the MC smiled at them. “Thank you,” the Akinsola family chorused.

Handing Over the Mic

“You’re welcome. According to the template given to me, this is supposed to be an introduction between the two families, but then, the bride’s father has something greater for us,” the MC said, and Jabir repositioned himself on the seat. His mother also adjusted herself on the seat.

A Warm Greeting

“Before I continue, I’ll like to give the mic to Otunba Adamson because he has a lot to say,” the MC said and handed the mic to Naila’s father. Again, Jabir sat down properly, his ears attentive to whatever Otunba needed to say.

Otunba’s Address

“Asalam Alaykum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh,” Otunba greeted warmly. “Walaykum Salam Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh,” they all responded cheerfully.

Eulogizing His Daughter

“I welcome everyone to this august occasion. Most especially my would-be in-laws. You’re specially and honorably welcome.” “Thank you,” the Akinsola family replied. “You’re welcome. Before I start speaking, can someone get me Naila, Omodasola, Ododoeye, Morenikeji, Abike, Abisola, Owodunni, Omolewa, Omotolani Oluwafunmilayo, Ayanfe,” Otunba called out his daughter’s name eulogically and emotionally.

A Father’s Love

Everyone was touched. They could feel his love for his daughter. One of Naila’s sisters-in-law quickly went in to fetch her. A few minutes later, Naila walked out majestically in the company of her two friends and two of her sisters-in-law; Khadijah and the one who fetched her. She was looking ravishing in her chocolate brown jilbab. Her hand was graced with a rose gold purse, and elegant rose gold shoes beautified her feet.

Coincidental Matching

Jabir was amazed to see Naila in chocolate brown. They both wore brown outfits, and the coincidence mesmerized him. It wasn’t planned at all. Thank God Amirah locked his clothes inside. The clothes he wanted to wear before were blue, which wouldn’t have matched Naila’s colour. The disappointment turned out to be a blessing. He looked at Habeeb with gratitude. Allah really used him to rescue him from shame.

Welcoming His Daughter

“You’re welcome, my darling daughter. Please sit down beside your mother,” Otunba ushered his daughter with adoration. “Thank you, daddy,” Naila smiled as she sat down.

Respecting Traditions

“I would have said she should go and sit down beside Jabir, but my children have been adhering to sunnah (the pristine practice of Islam) long enough for me to know that a man and a woman who are yet to become a husband and wife cannot exchange skinship – and part of it is sitting together, it doesn’t matter if their union is happening that day or not,” Otunba explained, and Hamzah smiled proudly.

Family Introduction

“Let’s do the family introduction,” he said, and the MC extensively introduced members of the Adamson family while Jabir’s uncle also introduced the Akinsola family. The introduction was enlightening, and Otunba was pleased.

A Special Announcement

“My fourth son, Haroon, is having his wedding in a month’s time. And I wish to do the two weddings together,” he said, which sparked different reactions from the audience. Jabir nodded his head. He really loved the short time frame. His family was also happy with it.

The Proposal

The MC asked Hassan to walk to where his father-in-law was sitting to ask for his daughter’s hand in marriage. The MC implored his father and one other male relative to go with him, which they did.

Formal Request

They stood in front of Engineer Okanlawon and requested his daughter’s hand in marriage. The MC made Hassan repeat the same question seven times. The bride was asked if she knew the groom and accepted him or was forced into the marriage. She replied that she knew him and agreed to the marriage.

Affirming the Marriage

Engineer Okanlawon was asked to respond sincerely to Hassan’s request, which he affirmed. The father of the groom was asked to corroborate his son’s request, which he did. The officiating Imam asked the father of the bride once again if he would give his daughter in marriage wholeheartedly to Hassan Olajuwon with the stipulated mahr of a Hijab closet, to which he gave a resounding yes.

A Father’s Blessing

Otunba continued. “My daughter’s would-be husband is someone I’m very much indebted to. If I give him a car, it wouldn’t measure up to the great things he did in my life. In fact, giving him a house would not suffice. Giving him any material gift wouldn’t suffice either. What I think will suffice is to bless him with my daughter…” he said, and the audience cheered. Jabir grinned from ear to ear.

Expressing Gratitude

“I didn’t say I want to give him my daughter as compensation for what he has done for me. I said I want to bless him with my daughter, which means that my daughter is a blessing. And I want to extend that blessing to him so that it can dwell with him forever and forever. That’s the only thing that can measure up to the good things he did for me,” Otunba said, and the audience cheered again.

Acknowledging Character

“I deliberately skipped the process of knowing Jabir. I told him to bring his family straight off because I know him so well. He’s my son’s very good friend who has lived under my roof before, wined and dined with me, and related with me. And I can say that he’s worthy of my daughter. He has an exemplary character which is really mind-blowing. Apart from what I know about him while living with me, I recently ran a private investigation on him, and the results were excellent. He’s a noble man, and nobility can’t be bought with money. And because he’s noble, I overlooked the fact that he’s a married man. Ordinarily, I won’t give my daughter to a married man, but because it’s him, I couldn’t help it. And so, it is my utmost desire to have them joined together today!” Otunba said, and the audience cheered again, this time louder.

A Dream Come True

Jabir was surprised. He couldn’t believe his feeling eventually came to pass. It wasn’t an ordinary feeling actually; the feeling stemmed from a dream he had. He dreamt that Otunba gave Naila to him on the first day he took his family to him. And his pleasant dreams always came to pass, which was why he had a strong feeling about the solemnisation happening that day. However, Otunba’s next words shocked him.

Honoring Tradition

“I want them to be joined together today, but I don’t want my daughter to leave today,” Otunba said, and Naila grinned. That was exactly what she wanted. To be joined together that day but not to leave that day. Jabir smiled with a feeling of tiny disappointment. He had planned how to sneak away with Naila for a seven-day adventure versus honeymoon to one of the best tourist centres in Nigeria. And by the time they returned after seven days, the house he wanted to put her in would have been ready. But then, he was equally happy that things didn’t go according to his plans. He could return home and pacify his wife more. He had a whole month to prepare her for the journey ahead. She also had a whole month to adjust. That was fair enough.

Joining Hearts

“I want the solemnisation to happen for a number of reasons. I said earlier that I know that the adherents of sunnah don’t share skinship even on their wedding day until they’re joined together. I want the couple to sit together on their wedding day, so I want them to be joined together today…”

Hamdalah’s Request

“Daddy, I also want to sit together with my husband on our wedding day,” Hamdalah said sharply, and Otunba smiled. “Your parents said they wanted everything to be done together on the wedding day. But don’t worry, dear, we can tell your parents to let the solemnisation happen before the programme so that you and Haroon can sit together. How about that?” Otunba asked her. “That’s perfect, sir,” she grinned, and Haroon smiled. He always enjoyed Hamdalah’s vibes. He would choose her over and over again.

Playful Banter

“We’re having a joint wedding!” Hamdalah winked at Naila because she was sitting beside her. “That’s really cool. But then, I’m officially getting married before you,” Naila bragged playfully. “Ish! Go and use your wedding seniority to collect money in the bank,” Hamdalah teased her. “Sorry, darling! I know it’s not easy to concede defeat,” Naila teased her. “I’ll cry o,” Hamdalah said sharply. “I have a handkerchief here!” Naila replied jovially. “You’re not nice. I promise to torment you when I finally become your sister-in-law.” “When that happens, I’ll no longer be in this house. I’ll also be at my husband’s house. Remember we’re getting married the same day!” “It doesn’t matter. I can still show you pepper!” Hamdalah replied, and they both giggled.

More Reasons to Celebrate

Otunba Adamson continued speaking. “Another reason why I want them to be joined together today is so that they can share a level of intimacy and bond before the wedding. In fact, they can even have carnal knowledge of each other before the wedding feast; I don’t mind that at all…” he said, which again sparked different reactions from the audience. Jabir grinned. He couldn’t believe he could be honoured by Otunba as much as that. The man really has a way of warming people’s hearts. He has really warmed his heart.

Personal Address

“Dear Jabir,” Otunba addressed him personally this time. “I’m honouring you today because you deserve it. I’m giving my daughter to you because your character is good. I’m giving my daughter to you because you’ve proven to be worthy of her. And because you’re equally her choice. Your affection for each other is way back. And I once separated you. I didn’t regret separating you even though I regret the way I went about it. Separating you then was for the best. I almost separated you again because of your marital status but then because you’re a noble breed, every other thing doesn’t matter. I want you to treat my daughter with utmost fragility. I don’t want you to disappoint me. I don’t want you to change from the good person that you are. If you mistreat my daughter, I’ll grind your bones and feed them to the birds in the sky,” he said, and Jabir laughed.

Promises and Blessings

“I know you’re laughing because those words reminded you of something, right?” Otunba asked. “Yes, sir,” Jabir replied. “But then, I’m not joking at all, so don’t laugh.” “I’m sorry for laughing, sir. I promise to treat your daughter well. I promise to love, cherish and adore her till infinity. I promise to water her dreams and aspirations. I promise to hold her dear till I breathe my last! May Allah assist me!” Jabir ended his promise with a prayer, and everyone replied with Aamin. Otunba, satisfied with his promise, called upon the officiating Imam. “Please sir, help us join them together,” Otunba urged the Imam emotionally.

The Solemnisation

The MC handed the microphone over to the Imam, who addressed Naila first. He asked if she was forced into marrying Jabir, and she replied in the negative. Satisfied with her response, the Imam told Jabir to get up alongside his father figure. He got up, and his uncle also got up. The Imam asked if he’d discussed the Mahr (dowry) with Naila, which he responded in the affirmative. He asked Naila if it was true that the dowry had been discussed, and she said yes.
